(Hot Springs, Arkansas - January 1, 2010) Smith’s, the leader in innovative sharpening technology, announces the improvement of its most popular sharpening product, the 2-Step Knife Sharpener (item # CCKS), for 2010. This compact sharpener is designed to sharpen all types of straight edge knives. The new design will be a certain hit with knowledgeable consumers and knife enthusiasts.

"Our goal at Smith’s is to give our consumer the best edge possible for whatever type of edge he or she is sharpening. In order to achieve this goal, we must continuously evaluate ways of bringing innovation to the sharpening category and improving our current designs no matter how popular or successful they may be," stated Louis Chalfant, Product Engineer. "We are constantly testing our new and existing products for performance and durability to identify any product-related issues that may hinder us from achieving this goal."

The newly designed CCKS will feature wider sharpening slots for easier blade access to the abrasive components. This allows smaller knives with shorter blades and thick housings (like everyday pocket knives) to be inserted further into the sharpening slot so that the sharpening process begins closer to the handle. This change could also allow some larger knives with grinds that start close to the handle to be sharpened more completely.

The 2-Step Knife Sharpener is designed to provide two stages of manual sharpening (Coarse & Fine) in a small, compact pull-thru style sharpener at a great value. It is quick, safe, and easy to use and features fixed angles in both slots to guarantee results every time. The carbide blades in the Coarse stage are used for quick edge setting on very dull or damaged blades, while the crossed ceramic rods in the Fine stage give you a razor-sharp, finished edge. It is available at leading sporting goods retailers, via online and mail order catalogs, and at ww.smithsedge.com.
