care & use

Listed below is the safest way to use the Smith's 12" Sharpening Steel. Other methods can be used based on your personal preference, but this method is what Smith's recommends for the safe and effective sharpening of your knife.

Sharpening Instructions:

  1. Place the tip of the sharpening steel on a solid surface. Apply sufficient downward pressure to avoid slipping during use.
  2. Place heel of your blade at the top of sharpening steel at preferred sharpening angle.
  3. Push the knife down the steel while pulling the knife towards you from the heel to the tip of the blade.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side of the blade.
  5. Continue sharpening both sides until blade is sharp. Always do an equal number of strokes on each side to ensure the sharpest edge possible.

Care & Use:

Always clean your sharpening steel after use and dry before storing. Clean with soapy water and a mild brush.
